Ukrainian refugees (mainly women and children) in York urgently need to move out of their sponsor homes to private renting. But demand on York’s rental market is stretched and expensive. Most are struggling to get viewings, let alone sign a contract. Our organisation YORK CITY OF SANCTUARY will work with you to help families into properties which they can then call ‘home’.
By acting as a ‘renter-mentor’ and supporting both sides, we have seen great results - happy tenants and landlords. We believe in offering back and have worked with over a dozen landlords in the city. This includes information and translation support, assistance with utilities, and help with furniture purchases. Our showcase ‘BACKYARD PROJECT’ transformed a garden that previous tenants had ruined. (It is now looked after and enjoyed by a lovely Ukrainian mother and her two daughters!)

York City of Sanctuary (a registered charity) was the first organisation to step up and support the refugees arriving here.
